La Soeur de Barrage
La Soeur de Barrage is a vertical shooter done in the Shanghai Alice Touhou style. You can download it from this page.
It’s simpler in gameplay, though, as it seems to have mouse-only controls and only one button to worry about. This poses some problems for me, as the mouse is less accurate for dodging through a bullet curtain. It’s possible that I’m missing the option to change this, as there is a menu item that may allow keyboard control.
Therein lies both the frustration and fun of playing games where the instructions are in a foreign language, the learning experience. Via Tim.

Nope, there is no option for keyboard control. If you play the game, you’d see that the bullet patterns are especially designed to test your mouse control precision (stage 1… boss with swords… ^_^). I’d recommend a good mouse pad for this game — a nice and smooth one for ball mice, or an opaque one for optical mice.
You’d also need your good mousing skills to get high scores. If you collect the gold coins without letting a single one drop off the screen, their worth in “Lilians” would increase up to 16. You get an extra life for every 1000 Lilians, and for every boss life bar depleted.

Hehe… that mode reads “oko-sama”. The meaning translates to “especially for children”. =P
The manual says it’s “great for practice, but your high score won’t be recorded”.

Well, truth be told whenever I mention my son Charlie playing a game it’s really a euphemism for me playing “oko-sama” mode
