Gigantic Army
Astro Port have a 2-level demo of Gigantic Army available now. It’s really quite good, though a little easy. I’m glad to see their style go back to the grittier look of their older games. Except for the mecha presence, I have expect to see the Tyrell Corporation building rise up in the background. Love the colours, love the parallax.
Game play is standard run ‘n gun, move, jump, and shoot. Your primary weapon fires based on aiming with the movement keys, but can be locked in one direction by holding the fire button down. You can hold down the jump button for an extra boost, you can dash by double-tapping the arrows, plus you have a shield and a secondary weapon.
The download link is a Vector download, and it seems they’re constantly changing the process. Find the green “Go to the Download Page” button near the bottom of the page, and press it 2-3 times. It’ll eventually change to a green “Download Now” button, and then you’re set.

The Astroport logo shows, i hear a lot of static, the game shuts down…
Pity, looks a lot like Cybernator /Assault Suits Valken, a game i adored in my younger days

yeah, it’s not working over here — if you press Z when it’s starting up then instead of shutting down it will go to the menu, but then trying to start a game results in shutting down

That’s too bad. No problems here on a 3+ year old laptop running Vista. Nothing special in the way of a graphics card, etc.

There’s an awesome video of this on youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5j93mNOSPCg
seems to play like Cybernator, too. The first boss looks like he stepped out of “Big Wars” or “MD Geist”
Bill, what resolution is that game running in? The video looks pretty clear…

The in-game screen shot feature captures at 640×480.

I had a similar crash. I used applocale to switch the exe region to Japan and it ran fine. So see if that works for you.

That is totally a police dispatch radio playing in the background. Why am I supposed to be talking to a parking attendant about an unknown white vehicle in the middle of a war zone?
Nifty demo, I just wish the game were faster paced.

Of course, if it was a Japanese taxi dispatcher it would sound very realistic. To me, at least

I concur after a mostly full playthrough. Fatten this up with a numbe rof mroe lev els and unique enemies and I’d buy it, illegible Japanese or no
.
They’ve got a solid mechanic with the robot controls, they feel very deliberate apnd plodding, which works. The shield sprite’s a bit flat, though.
