Chip at Shmuptacular mentions that TypeStriker is now free. Here’s where you can obtain the free license key, and yes, it’s from the developer. I admit to never trying this, but I think I will now. Not because it’s free, but I never realized how great looking a game it is.
The Bounce is an interesting idea for a shooter. There’s a post at the Shmups Forum announcing version 0.1. It’s quite interesting in that your bullets bounce off the circular arena walls and gain power after each bounce. The mouse controls movement, the left button is for firing, and ‘Q‘ and ‘W‘ for ship rotation. Quite fun.

Posted over at Gibbage is a link to Limbo. Check out the teaser trailer… this game looks really good. What a great style, especially the industrial age factory scene.
From Dark Hell Company comes news that Demolition Gunner: In Seek and Destroy has been released. It’s an extended version of the original 3 minute version… and as such is on an easier difficulty curve. Not easy mind you, just easier.
Games like this are why I love shmups. It’s hard to simplify the genre much more, as this is about as pure as it can get while still offering a little variety. You play as a helicopter gunship, with your primary shot on ‘Z‘ and a secondary napalm bomb on ‘X‘. Moving left and right (with the arrow keys) also adjusts your yaw, giving that little bit extra to think about. Lateral play is heavily emphasized by the attack patterns adding to this mechanic.
The game is divided into several levels, with big sprite bosses at the end of each. There are lots of bullets on the screen, of which all are honest in their patterns. No fancy physics and accelerations, just straight lines and plenty of dodging.
This game is simply great fun. It’s a free download and should be on every shmup lover’s hard-drive right away. 7-Zip is recommended for expanding Japanese LZH files.
