Russell at Game Tunnel has just announced Game Tunnel Magazine. It’s a slick looking digital magazine (PDF format), “Your Guide to Independent, Downloadable and Casual Games”. Looks like a great resource for independent games, full of previews, reviews, and interviews. All the views that are fit to print (ouch, sorry).
The Man Who Died Flying is a great title for a game. Something about it evokes the feeling of Leonardo da Vinci type flying machines, and the game’s sprite design reflects this as well.
The game itself is a very standard vertical shooter. One shot for firing, one for bombs. Capture the powerups that are dropped when you destroy an enemy, defeat the mid-level boss, and then the end-level boss. Simple, but still well done. I like the graphics style, and the BMG is pretty good too. My only complaint is there doesn’t seem to be the variety of enemies there should be. The download link on the Trinity site is a Vector download.

Shmup-Dev announced their latest competition today, AutoFire 2007 Shooter Competition. The theme for this contest is, I think, a great one:
The game must have an autofire feature. It can be the primary and only weapon, a powerup, or another weapon in the game.
Just enough structure to build a competition on. Top marks to Matt and Tim for a great set of prizes as well. I had a lot of fun in the last competition, so I expect I’ll spend some time thinking about what to do for this one.
Postman at Shoot the Core found the interesting R-Gear: Tribute to R-type. It’s an indie, homebrew shooter for the PSP, and the combination of R-Type and ProGear looks great. What with this game, and Callisto, is it crazy to get a PSP just for homebrew?
