Bullet Hell Tactics

Posted in everything, games, preview, shmups, video at 9:14 am by the2bears

I’ve been watching Bullet Hell Tactics progress for the last little while. The video looks very promising, I’ve tried the beta but still haven’t had any luck getting it running on the new laptop. I don’t know enough about XNA environment.

The controls looks pretty complex. I don’t usually like more than 3 buttons and directional pad. In the video the player didn’t really show the extent of the hitbox which makes me wonder if the programmer is using a full mesh for collision checking. This may work in today’s fps games and such but not well in a shmup especially if it is a danmaku. I hope you don’t just shield your way through the difficult parts leaving no out for the precision player. The rotation thing might work well, it all depends on how hard it is to control. The music was really well done. Visually the models and textures look good but that purple shield/meter look REALLY out of place. I think this is due to the majority of the colors being warm colors and light purple is a more cool color. Adding a glowing point like the Shiki games would really help if this is a small hitbox game.

Some great comments and suggestions Hubert. Hopefully the benefits of a open beta like this, the feedback in both gameplay and technical issues, will be helpful for the developer.
