One thing that has struck me about the game this go around is the way it suggests a deep and interesting background story. It’s very well done, utilizing each unique stage and locale along with background music. From the optimistic feel of stage 1, Bridgehead, start of the battle, through Battleship, the Frontline, to the eerie and lonely Fortress. Finally, we have the last stage, the aptly named Graveyard. The change in music allows you to feel the despair of the friendly ground troops, in full retreat before the seemingly invincible giant armor of the enemy.
You can’t help but feel that you’ve been through a war, miraculously snatching victory from sure defeat. It’s worth downloading and watching Kiken‘s play through at SuperPlay.
