GridWars: Out of Beta

Posted in everything, games, opensource, shmups at 3:36 pm by the2bears

GridWars is well out of beta, and what a game it’s become. It’s an experimental playground for effects now, F3 toggling between various grid styles. It looks and plays amazing. It’s also been a very transparent development process, and the source is available. What’s even more cool now, is that the first modification has been released, by Mentil. GridWars Classic is a work in progress “to substantially modify the game to be more like Geometry Wars 2”. Just unzip in the GridWars directory.

This game is sick. Thanks for cluing me into it. I haven’t been able to get my controller working in it yet, but it is still pretty good with just the keyboard.

I was wondering if you had a collection of shmups that work for mac sitting around anywhere? I have been trying to find more and coming up short 🙁

    alright, thanks again.

Sorry, don’t have a defined list of Mac shmups, but certainly give Ultratron and Titan Attacks from a try. Most of the Kenta Cho games have been ported to Mac as well, not sure where but a quick Google will sort that out. My own Relentless Automata (when it emerges from development hell) will be cross platform as well.

    Thanks for the comments,
