Chalk
Chalk has deservedly been getting some attention the last few days. It’s by Joakim Sandberg, who also created Noitu Love. Chalk uses just the mouse, and while not technically a shoot ‘em up it does have some similar aspects. Regardless of its genre, it’s very creative and fun.
Gameplay revolves around moving your character (right mouse button moves you to the cursor or ‘WASD‘) while drawing lines of “chalk” on the screen. There are certain elements that are eliminated by drawing between their points (they might have 2, 3, or more). Other enemies are killed by drawing a point back from a purple bullet to them. There’s more, plus bonuses and bosses to fight.
I recommend using the keyboard controls for movement, mainly as doubling up on the mouse does distract you when things get hectic (try having to move the mouse back and forth between movement on one side, then connecting dots on the other). I’m curious to try out my Wacom tablet, and see how it is in fullscreen mode. The mouse was too sensitive fullscreen for me.
The game is pretty good. More at Independent Gaming and TIGSource.
